Should I Be a Specialist or Generalist?

Should I be a specialist or a generalist?

The more I learn, the harder it is to choose. Specialists go deep. They master one thing, become precise, reliable, hard to replace. Generalists go wide. They connect ideas, adapt fast, and see the bigger picture.

But the longer I think about it, the more it feels like a false choice. Because depth without context becomes narrow. And breadth without depth becomes shallow.

Maybe the goal isn’t to pick one. Maybe it’s to explore widely and go deep where it matters. To understand many things, but be known for something.
